English Language Arts EC 4 (KG1)
Course Description:
At Smart City School the Kindergarten Language Arts program focuses on laying the foundation for beginning language literacy.
The students are introduced to English as a second language using a child-friendly phonics and literacy program.
With prompting and support, students learn a variety of concepts such as; the alphabet, letter sounds, print awareness, basic vocabulary, and comprehension of stories.
Students are given the opportunity to develop their oral language skills and expand their vocabulary which will prepare them for reading readiness.
Teachers plan developmentally structured lesson in line with using the Common Core standards.
A variety of instructional methods are used such as small group, whole group and individual one on one interaction.
Teachers create a fun environment by exposing students to different kinds of learning through songs, games, stories, and activities.
The children are encouraged to demonstrate what they have learned through drawing, expressing themselves, participating in activities and engaging in classroom discussions.
Ongoing assessments are made by formative practices, observation, projects, handwritings, summative assessments to ensure mastery.
Math EC 4 (KG1)
Course Description
Our unique Math program at Smart City School is introduced through using the Montessori methodology where the students are recognized as individuals with different talents, strengths and abilities.
The students take their lesson in a large Montessori room equipped with many materials and resources to provide our young learners an opportunity to master skills. Students are introduced to numbers, number sense, counting and cardinality and shapes. Providing students with hands on activities enables them to interact and learn mathematical concepts in a child-friendly environment.
Applying differentiating instruction affords the child to engage in a variety of activities using manipulative, models, and technology as they move towards becoming independent learners.
Teachers encourage students to demonstrate what they have learned through: identifying, classifying, comparing, drawing, writing, and talking about their learning. . Ongoing assessments are made by formative practices, observation, projects, handwritings, summative assessments to ensure mastery.

Course Description
Our Science program offers students an introduction to science concepts which helps them know about the world around them.
These concepts are taught by a variety of ways such as; inquiry-based discovery, observing, exploring, participating in science experiments, and hand on activities.
As students begin to develop observation skills, they become aware of their environment.
Life Sciences are introduced with defining living and non-living, plants and animals, their needs, and life cycle.
Earth Science skills are incorporated into daily weather and season discussions. . Ongoing assessments are made by formative practices, observation, projects, experiments, handwritings, summative assessments to ensure mastery.
Language Arts EC 5 (KG2)
Course Description
At Smart City School the Kindergarten Language Arts program focuses on laying the foundation for continuing language literacy.
At this stage, students continue to use their skills to develop fluency by expanding their vocabulary through using the Journey’s reading program.
With prompting and support, students continue to gain phonological awareness by recognizing letter sounds, distinguish rhyming words, and blending letter sounds to form three letter words.
Students develop their oral language skills and expand their vocabulary which will prepare them for reading readiness. Teachers plan developmentally structured lesson in line with using the Common Core standards.
